Mission & Beliefs
Mission:
Our mission as a church can be identified as learning how to love God with all of our hearts, minds and souls (real change) and learning to love our neighbors as much as we love ourselves (real connections). We’ve summarized this in a way that helps us to remember what we desire to become: New Community exists to help people discover and fully develop real change and real connections in their lives.
Beliefs:
We believe the Bible is God’s word to all people. It entirely originated with God and is without error of any kind and is the final authority of truth for belief and life.
We believe there is one true, holy and living God, who alone is worthy of our worship. He has eternally existed in three co-equal persons: the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit. God is the creator and ruler of the universe.
We believe that Jesus Christ is the Son of God. He has existed eternally and is co-equal with the Father. Jesus Christ came to earth, lived a sinless life and offered himself as the perfect sacrifice for sin by dying on the cross. He arose from the dead after three days to demonstrate his power over sin and death and will come again to reign as King of Kings and Lord of Lords.
We believe the Holy Spirit, the third member of the trinity is co-equal with the Father and the Son. He has been active throughout history and continues to work today. The Holy Spirit gives new life to believers, brings them into the body of Christ, resides within them and secures them for all eternity. He also distributes gifts for the building up of the church. We believe that some of these gifts, having fulfilled their purpose, are no longer in use today. Therefore, we are not a charismatic church.
We believe people are made in the image of God. They are the supreme objects of God’s creation. However, all human beings are marred by disobedience toward God, which is called sin.
We believe salvation is a gift from God to mankind. It is received only through faith in Jesus Christ. It was accomplished by the sinless death of Jesus Christ in our place, because he alone could meet the requirements of God. Only by trusting in God’s offer of forgiveness through Christ can man be saved from sin’s penalty and have eternal life. Salvation is received by faith, apart from any human merit or ritual. Salvation provides an eternal, unbreakable relationship with God that cannot be lost by any means.
We believe in water baptism and in the partaking of communion.
